How can you stay healthy and fight cold and flu season this year?
That dreaded time of year is upon us- cold and flu season. Here are a few ways to help prepare your health and give you some resources to help when you are feeling unwell.
Vitamin C- helps build immune system, helps fight through colds, helps manage blood pressure which can be affected when you’re sick. Adults can take up to 2000mg of vitamin c a day when sick.
Vitamin D- helps support immune function, brain health, is an anti inflammatory and antioxidant. Take 1000-2000 units per day during winter months.
Elderberry syrup- used as a cold and flu preventative. Helps reduce cold duration. Has lots of vitamin c. Helps reduce inflammation. Buy at local nutrition stores. Take on a daily basis during flu season.
Zinc- helps reduce severity and duration cold and flu symptoms. Can help prevent respiratory tract infections. Take 75mg-100mg daily within the first onset of a cold. Use cautiously if taking blood pressure pills that end in pril (ex: rampril), certain antibiotics, and certain diuretics. Best to talk to your pharmacist if you are taking any of these meds.
Onions- cut an onion in half and leave it out in your most used areas like living room, kitchen or bedroom and let it absorb the toxins naturally. Throw out after 24-48 hours and never eat. Onions help take in bacteria and viruses while naturally cleansing the house.
Garlic- increasing your garlic consumption during this season can come with many benefits. Garlic helps reduce inflammation, boosts the immune system, helps with cholesterol and maintain a healthy heart. Those who incorporate 2 gloves of raw garlic into their diet every week have improved health.
