Insulin Resistance…what is it & why you should care
Insulin resistance is one of the most common — and often overlooked — health concerns today. It affects energy levels, weight, mood, and long-term wellness. But what exactly is it?
What Is Insulin Resistance?
Insulin is a hormone that helps your body use glucose (sugar) from the food you eat for energy. When your cells stop responding properly to insulin, your body produces more of it to keep blood sugar levels in check. This condition is called insulin resistance.
Over time, this can lead to weight gain, fatigue, brain fog, and eventually type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or hormonal imbalances.
Signs You May Have Insulin Resistance:
Constant hunger or cravings, especially for carbs
Fat around the belly area
Feeling tired after eating
Difficulty losing weight
High blood pressure or cholesterol levels
The Good News:
Insulin resistance can often be reversed or managed with lifestyle changes, including:
Eating a balanced diet low in refined carbs and sugar
Incorporating regular movement and strength training
Prioritizing sleep and stress management
Supporting your metabolism with key nutrients (like magnesium, chromium, and omega-3s)
Taking action early can help you feel more energized, focused, and in control of your health.
